HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
Volunteers of the Foster Care Program team work with shelter staff to determine which dogs and puppies are most in need of foster care. As a foster parent, you will receive emails or phone calls from the Foster Care Program Coordinator or a Foster Care Team Member that will give you detailed descriptions of the animals that are in need of foster homes. When you see or hear about a dog that would be a good match for your household and lifestyle, you simply contact the Foster Program Coordinator so that a meeting between you (and your dog if applicable) and the foster dog can be arranged. Someone from the team will meet you at the shelter for the meeting. REASONS TO FOSTER
Fostering is a wonderful experience for you and your family. You can feel good knowing that you have saved the life of a dog. Even better, you have created space in the shelter to accommodate other homeless dogs. Fostering is also a great way to teach children the value of community service, responsibility and caring for others! Foster dogs provide companionship and purpose, and your act of kindness is repaid in rewards that are beyond words. DOGS NEEDING FOSTER HOMES
Puppies too young/immature to be adopted Abused dogs that need tender loving care Injured dogs or ones recovering from surgery Any dog in need of socialization Dogs with a cold or a cough Abandoned mother with a litter of puppies Any dog if the shelter becomes overcrowded |
